The Sant Sebastià celebration in La Seu d'Urgell featured the proclamation by Marta Pujantell, journalist and director of RàdioSeu, as its central event. This coincided with the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the official start of the municipal station, which occurred on July 1, 1985.
In her speech, Pujantell stressed the relevance of RàdioSeu in a mountain enclave, citing data from the Second White Paper on Local Radio in Catalonia. She claimed that local media helps prevent “information deserts” in sparsely populated areas like the Alt Urgell.
“"To counteract rumors or the often distorting influence of social networks and pseudo-media, which can weaken the democratic system at a time when values recovered years ago are now dangerously disregarded."
The director warned of the risk of disinformation due to the lack of attention from major Catalan media outlets. She mentioned the report by the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya (CAC), which warned about the marked centralist tendency, dedicating very low percentages of news time to sparsely populated regions like the Pyrenees.
The Sant Sebastià program continues with various cultural events. This weekend features the performance of the play Príncipe azul (Blue Prince), by La Inestable Ceretana de Teatre, and the traditional Sant Sebastià Concert, featuring guitar students from conservatories in La Seu d'Urgell, Puigcerdà, and Andorra. Future events include a conference by cartoonist Pilarín Bayés and a concert by Arnau Obiols.
