The Oliana City Council issued an emergency alert on February 13 warning that the Segre River flow will significantly increase following water release from the Oliana Dam.

The decision to open the floodgates comes after weeks of heavy rainfall that pushed the reservoir to over 97% of its total capacity. Authorities expect the river flow to double in the coming hours.

"Exercise extreme caution and avoid approaching the riverbed, flood-prone areas, or spaces near the watercourse."
