Cyclist Quim Fargas, a resident of Alàs and member of the Arfa-Ribera d'Urgellet Cycling Club, has successfully ascended and descended Ojos del Salado, the world's highest volcano in Chile.

During March, Fargas, along with Víctor Mestre and Manel Ibars, completed this Big Mountain Bike challenge. The team reached the 6,893-meter summit after a grueling 12-hour climb carrying their 17kg bikes on their backs, followed by a two-hour descent through volcanic gravel in temperatures below -20ºC.
This feat in the Atacama region makes them likely the first Catalans to achieve this milestone on the second-highest peak in the Americas. The expedition plans to release a documentary featuring their high-altitude cycling experience soon.
