The city of La Seu d'Urgell has been the scene of an episode of intolerance directed against the local associative and cultural fabric. The attacks consisted of throwing eggs at the entrance window of the Ateneu de l'Alt Urgell and the bookstore and cultural action center El Refugi.
According to statements from the Ateneu, those responsible acted quickly and caused material damage to the facilities. These events are part of a broader pattern, as a similar attack on a mural supporting Palestine has also been reported, which the entities interpret as vandalism motivated by hatred towards culture and grassroots social advocacy.
“"Many thanks to all the people who came to the concentration today and to all those who have shown us their support these days. We will continue here opening doors, books, and debates. More community and more culture!"
In a statement, members of the Ateneu condemned the action, calling it “intolerable acts” that, far from intimidating them, only reinforce their work. They affirm that the response to these aggressions will be to continue working on social transformation and community building.
This episode has generated strong concern within the city's associative network, which emphasizes the importance of respecting spaces for cultural expression and dialogue. Both the Ateneu and El Refugi maintain their commitment to defending citizen participation and the values of solidarity and social cohesion.
