The Municipal Police of La Seu d'Urgell and the Mossos d'Esquadra have launched a joint campaign this week to control personal mobility vehicles (PMVs) and ensure compliance with the new local ordinance.

The campaign has been launched with the objective of “guaranteeing road safety, coexistence, and respect for public space,” according to the local police force. This action follows the La Seu d'Urgell City Council definitively approving a new traffic ordinance last month that regulates the use of scooters on public roads, as well as the presence of motorhomes in the municipality.
Among the main obligations that the Municipal Police reminds electric scooter drivers of is the need to wear a helmet and have civil liability insurance. Likewise, PMVs are for individual use, meaning only one person can ride each scooter.

Safety is everyone's responsibility.

The new regulation also establishes clear prohibitions regarding circulation. It is strictly forbidden to ride the scooter on sidewalks and pedestrian areas. It is also prohibited to drive while using a mobile phone or headphones, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police announced that “surveillance will be reinforced in the coming days” as a preliminary step before imposing penalties on offenders.
