The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the death of a 67-year-old woman in La Seu d'Urgell, who was convicted in Andorra in 2010 for the murder of her ex-partner.

The body of the woman, who was 67 years old and reportedly in delicate health, was found this Tuesday in an apartment in the capital of Alt Urgell where she had recently rented a room. Although the Mossos d'Esquadra have launched an investigation, initial inspections have not revealed signs of criminality.

In principle, the police have not found signs of criminality, although they are awaiting the results of the autopsy of the body.

The autopsy has been commissioned to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Lleida. The woman, originally from Tarragona, was released last August after serving 15 of the 20 years she had been sentenced to by the Andorran justice system, having received prison benefits.
The sentence issued by the Andorran Batllia in 2010 condemned Montserrat Gimeno to 20 years in prison plus 20 years of expulsion from the country. The court found that the accused had acted with cruelty, having stabbed the victim up to 38 times across different parts of the body.
The crime, which caused widespread shock in Andorra, involved an attempt to conceal the body. After the murder, Gimeno tried to dispose of the body by placing it in a large sack made of garbage bags. She was discovered when the bag tore and began to leak blood while painters were helping her carry it downstairs.
