The 2026-2030 Strategic Plan for the Rural Agents, approved by the Government last March, defines the corps' evolution and measures to strengthen its organization in response to the new climate and social context. One of the most notable changes is the expansion of the workforce, which will grow from the current 675 agents to 1,300 operational staff. This growth will significantly increase territorial presence, directly impacting all counties within the Alt Pirineu i Aran region.
This means the Regional Area of the Alt Pirineu for the Rural Agents corps will see an increase in its agent numbers, rising from the current 107 positions to 237 staff across the counties of Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, Alt Urgell, Alta Ribagorça, and Cerdanya. The plan also includes the full deployment of different professional categories and strengthens the Deputy Directorate General of Human Resources, establishing an administrative support team to allocate more hours to operational field tasks.
In addition to personnel reinforcement, the plan includes new infrastructure projects to enhance territorial presence, improve working conditions, and ensure a more accessible and efficient service. A new building will be constructed in Sort to house the Regional Area headquarters and a warehouse, alongside a new county base in El Pont de Suert and another in the Cerdanya region. These constructions are part of the Corps' Base Plan, which promotes the renovation and modernization of its facilities.
This boost comes at a time of peak activity for the corps. Throughout 2025, Rural Agents have increased their interventions across the country by 41%, reaching 203,663, in response to growing public requests and complex environmental challenges. In the Alt Pirineu region, the 28,269 interventions in 2025 represent a 32.8% increase compared to the previous year.
The Strategic Plan is committed to digitizing administrative and operational processes, introducing new information systems and applied technology to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and safety of interventions. Furthermore, it aims to promote the growth of the EDUCAR program, which maintains a strong commitment to environmental education, particularly for children and young people. Last year, 72 educational activities were conducted in the Alt Pirineu, reaching 1,667 students.
The corps' control room in the Alt Pirineu received a total of 11,217 citizen requests last year, as part of a public service that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
