La Vall de Boí, in the Catalan Pyrenees, has launched an initiative to create a coworking space with the aim of attracting new residents and combating depopulation in the Alta Ribagorça region.

This strategy seeks to revitalize spaces and offer modern, comfortable infrastructure for entrepreneurs and self-employed workers. The municipality, with 1,129 inhabitants according to 2025 data from Idescat, thus aims to guarantee the continuity of its traditional services and trades, as well as fostering new ones.
The initiative, named 'Rural Connect Space - Rural Economic Activation Center', has been selected as one of the winning projects in the current edition of 'Reactivating Projects'. This proposal is driven by Ikea and the Holapueblo platform, with the objective of fostering the revitalization of rural territories through projects with social and economic impact.
The La Vall de Boí project received 3,807 votes in the popular voting process among Ikea Family members. It plans to transform a currently underutilized municipal room into a shared workspace, equipped with all necessary furniture and meeting rooms, to support professional activity throughout the year.
For the implementation of this coworking space, Ikea will contribute 14,000 euros, allocated to interior design and furniture, without the need for structural works. The main objective is to strengthen the local economy, facilitate the development of professional projects, and contribute to retaining the active population in the territory.
In addition to this initiative, the town council has rehabilitated empty homes to offer affordable rents, financing a large part of the necessary works. These joint actions seek to address the challenges of depopulation and promote rural development in the area.
