Bernat Jaume knocked out in Tournament of Champions Round of 16 by World No. 2

The squash player from Igualada was defeated by New Zealander Paul Coll, but reaches the 33rd position in the global ranking.

Squash player Bernat Jaume, from Igualada, was eliminated by World No. 2 Paul Coll in the Round of 16 of the Tournament of Champions held at Grand Central Station in Manhattan.

The player from Anoia, Bernat Jaume, confirmed his excellent start to the season at the prestigious Tournament of Champions, one of the most iconic events on the world circuit, played at Grand Central Station in Manhattan. Despite the defeat, his performance allows him to climb to number 33 in the world and reach the top of the Spanish ranking for the first time.
Jaume, who entered the tournament late, secured an important victory in the Round of 32 against Britain's Declan James. The player from Igualada had to come back from losing the first game (12-14) to finally win 3 games to 1, with scores of 11-7, 17-15, and 11-4.
In the Round of 16, he faced New Zealander Paul Coll, the current World No. 2. Coll demonstrated his great form and, despite Jaume's initial resistance in the first game (8-11), he ended up winning clearly in the next two games 3-11 and 4-11, closing the match 3-0.
This competition, comparable only to the World Championships to be held this year in Cairo, Egypt, is recognized for its high level and its historic location in New York, a result that encourages Bernat Jaume to continue growing at the top level of world squash.
