The Mayor of Calaf, Montse Mases, has unveiled the town's new residential center for the elderly, a long-awaited project featuring 54 beds and specialized living units.

After three decades of local demands, the Alta Segarra region will finally have a facility that cost approximately 5.2 million euros. The project was funded by European grants, the Barcelona Provincial Council, and municipal resources.

"We wanted a service focused on people rather than business, which is why we didn't want corporate entities to manage it."

The Sant Andreu Salut Foundation has been selected to manage the site. Beyond residential care, the center will offer community services such as dining for those over 65 and specialized home assistance to help seniors stay in their own houses.
The rollout will begin with the day center in May, followed by the full residence and home care services in September. The local government is requesting 40 subsidized spots to ensure affordability for residents.
