Escola Ateneu in Igualada has commenced construction this week to install an elevator, significantly improving the center's accessibility and addressing a long-standing demand from the educational community.

This intervention, promoted by the Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Generalitat, primarily aims to remove existing architectural barriers. The goal is to facilitate mobility for all students, teaching staff, and families, with a special focus on individuals with mobility challenges.
Forecasts indicate that the works will continue until before the start of the next academic year, scheduled for September. During this period, the school has reorganized various services to minimize the impact of the construction on students' daily routines.
As a temporary measure, the dining service will be relocated to the Escola de Música. This decision will optimize available spaces and facilitate the continuation of works within the school premises. Furthermore, once the academic year concludes in June, children from the nursery school El Rusc will be temporarily moved to the Early Childhood Education area of Escola Ateneu until July, ensuring that construction can proceed during the summer months without disrupting teaching activities.
