The Igualada City Council and the Department of Education have suspended all teaching activities at the Emili Vallès school this March due to serious structural flaws in the building.

The 53-year-old building was closed after technical reports identified significant deterioration in the floor slabs. As a result, 220 students and 20 teachers will be moved to la Teneria facilities starting this Thursday, a relocation expected to last at least until autumn.

"We are being preventive rather than reactive. Physical integrity of students and staff must be preserved."

Marc Castells · Mayor of Igualada
The local government plans to approve a budget modification of over 300,000 euros to fund the necessary repairs. Experts confirmed that while the risk of collapse was not imminent, the structural trend made the evacuation necessary to avoid future incidents.
