Engineer Joan Carles Cerdan, an executive at Equipceramic in Vilanova del Camí, managed to fly from Iraq to Catalonia last Friday, just hours before the airspace was closed due to the conflict with Iran.

While Cerdan escaped by air, his colleagues faced a more difficult journey. One worker from Igualada arrived home this Tuesday, but two others had to cross the border into Turkey by road using emergency permits provided by local clients.

"A few more hours and I would have had to stay there because they closed the airspace."

The company, based in the Anoia region, operates in areas like Irbil, which have been targeted by bombings. Cerdan noted that local Iraqis viewed the situation with surprising 'normality' as they are unfortunately accustomed to living near active conflict zones.
