The Igualada City Council has opened the call for the second edition of the Social Action Literary Awards, an initiative that aims to combat age discrimination and promote intergenerational reflection.

The Social Action department of the Igualada City Council is launching the second edition of the Social Action Literary Awards. This cultural and social initiative seeks to give voice to different generations to reflect, through creativity, on coexistence, equal opportunities, and the fight against age discrimination.
The councillor for social action, Sandra de la Iglesia, explained that the first edition focused on ageism towards the elderly, while this year the theme is age discrimination focused on young people. Thus, the competition addresses the issue from two different perspectives and with diverse age groups.
The competition maintains last year's two categories: 'Grans x Moments' (Seniors x Moments), aimed at young people born between 2008 and 2012, and 'Moments x Grans' (Moments x Seniors), for people born up to December 31, 1961. Works must be original, unpublished, and in Catalan, with a length of between two and eight pages.
Submissions can be made digitally at plainclusio@aj-igualada.net or in person at the Espai Cívic Centre (carrer de la Trinitat, 12). The deadline is November 17, 2026, at 3 PM.
The jury, chaired by the Councillor for Social Action, will consist of professionals from the literary and journalistic world, local bookstores, and social and educational sector experts. Creativity, originality, sensitivity, and the ability to evoke emotion in the texts will be particularly valued.
A total of six prizes will be awarded (three per category) with cash prizes of €150, €100, and €50, plus a diploma. The youth category prizes will consist of school supplies, while the adult category prizes will be awarded as vouchers.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 26, 2026, at 7 PM, at the Espai Cívic Centre. Prior to this, there will be an intergenerational meeting for the authors to share experiences and reflections on the theme.
Through this initiative, the Igualada City Council aims to promote creativity as a tool for social cohesion and to break down age stereotypes from the personal and literary perspective of each generation.
