The Igualada City Council, in collaboration with Igualada Comerç, Nou Centre, and the Anoia Business Union, has launched an ambitious strategic plan for local commerce with an initial budget of 300,000 euros.

This initiative, covering the period 2026-2027, aims to consolidate and modernize the city's open-air shopping center model. The goal is to strengthen Igualada's commercial identity, adapting to new consumption habits and the expansion of e-commerce, while fostering social cohesion and the local economy.
The plan envisions integrating commerce with other key sectors such as hospitality, culture, and emblematic city events, including Rec.0, Mostra d'Igualada, and the European Balloon Festival. This synergy seeks to offer a complete and attractive experience to visitors, retaining local and regional consumers and attracting new ones.

"Igualada is defined by an open-air urban center model, with diverse businesses and its own personality. This Plan is an operational roadmap that will strengthen the city's commercial identity and improve the shopping experience."

Jordi Marcè · Councillor for Commerce
Among the project's eight strategic axes, collaborative governance between the City Council and the private sector, modernization of establishments, support for entrepreneurship, and attracting new buyers through major events stand out. The agreement, which must be approved in the March plenary session, will include actions such as subsidies to occupy vacant premises, advisory programs, and urban ambiance projects on special dates.

"Our entity will provide the business vision to help businesses professionalize and attract customers."

Joan Mateu · President of the UEA
