Pujalt, the Anoia village with Pyrenees views and a rich historical legacy

The small municipality of Pujalt, located in western Anoia, stands out for its privileged views, the remains of its medieval castle, and the important Memorial of the Popular Army from the Civil War.

Pujalt is situated at over 700 meters of altitude, bordering the Segarra region, and its economy is traditionally based on livestock farming and agriculture. Historically, it was a strategic point where the castle of the lords of Cervera stood, which later belonged to the kingdom of Aragon and the lords of Cardona. Currently, only some ruins of the castle remain.
With an area of 31.4 km², the municipality of Pujalt has just over 200 inhabitants and is divided into five population centers: l’Astor, Conill, la Guàrdia Pilosa, Vilamajor, and the main center of Pujalt. Thanks to its central location in Catalonia, visitors can admire the Pyrenees, Montserrat, and the mountain ranges of Pinós and Boixadors from here.
One of the main points of interest is the church of Sant Jaume de la Guàrdia Pilosa, built as a parish in the 12th century and later renovated. The building was reformed in the 16th and 18th centuries, when height was added and the bell tower was constructed.
It is also essential to visit the Memorial of the Popular Army, an interpretation center that recovers the Instruction Base of the XVIII Corps of the Popular Army of the Republic, offering insight into life during the Civil War. Finally, the Pujalt Observatory features facilities for astronomical observation and organizes conferences and educational workshops about space and the universe.
