Updating public transport frequencies is an urgent necessity in La Torre de Claramunt. The current routes, designed when the municipality had fewer than 2,000 inhabitants, no longer meet the needs of the current population of nearly 4,500. This was highlighted during the meeting between the mayor and MP Montse Ortiz.
Key demands include improving connections to Igualada, crucial for vocational and university students, as well as for travel to the regional hospital, medical centers, and administrative offices.
The City Council is collaborating with the MP and the service concessionaire to expand the frequencies of the bus line connecting les Pinedes de l’Armengol, Vilanova d’Espoia, La Torre de Claramunt, and Igualada. The aim is to introduce new morning and midday schedules, particularly adapted to academic timetables.
Furthermore, efforts are underway to strengthen the connection between les Pinedes de l’Armengol, Vilanova d’Espoia, La Torre de Claramunt, and Capellades to improve access to the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Railways), facilitating travel to both Igualada and Barcelona.
Following the meeting, a formal proposal will be submitted to the Catalan Parliament. Montse Ortiz, a member of the Mobility and Transport Commission, has pledged to advocate for these needs to drive real improvements in public transport for the residents of La Torre de Claramunt.
