The new day center for the elderly in Masquefa has now had its first stone laid. The event was attended by the Minister of Social Rights and Inclusion, Raúl Moreno, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, Daniel Gutiérrez, and the coordinator of Territorial Services of Penedès, Eva Noales. The facility, municipally owned, will be located in the former cinema building, opposite the Town Hall, and plans to increase capacity from the current 15 places to 30.
The project has an investment of nearly 2.4 million euros. The Generalitat de Catalunya contributes 340,000 euros through the Single Plan for Works and Services of Catalonia (PUOSC), the Barcelona Provincial Council contributes 700,000 euros, and the rest of the funding is municipal. The new headquarters aims to be a larger, more modern, and accessible space in the town center.
The new location will feature a ground floor exclusively for the day center and an upper floor with spaces linked to the service. Additionally, an area of approximately 100 square meters will be set up for multipurpose and community use, open to all elderly residents of the municipality.
The center will offer complementary services such as laundry, hairdressing, and a social dining room, as well as workshops and therapeutic activities. These services will also be available to elderly individuals who are not users of the day center, with the aim of integrating the facility into community life.
Currently, the center managed by the Consorci Sociosanitari d’Igualada has 15 places, 10 of which are contracted and five are accredited for economic benefits linked to the service (PEV). With the expansion, the Town Hall plans to request an increase in contracted places from 10 to 20.
