The community composting area of La Mallola, in Santa Margarida de Montbui, hosted last Saturday the first compost extraction resulting from the project promoted by the City Council, which aims for more sustainable domestic waste management.

This first extraction marks a milestone in the community composting project, involving residents from La Mallola, El Saió, and Coll del Guix. The goal is to transform domestic organic waste into a useful resource for the land, such as fertilizer for plants, gardens, and orchards.
During the event, attendees could see how food scraps and other organic materials are transformed into a natural material with a second life. Participants had the opportunity to take home some of the compost obtained, using their own containers to avoid unnecessary packaging.
Community composting is a practice that helps reduce the amount of waste managed and returns nutrients to the soil. For the process to work correctly, proper separation of organic matter and maintaining adequate moisture and aeration conditions are essential.
