The Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Firefighters) have urged the public to avoid mountain excursions in heavily snowed areas, such as the Vall d'Aran, this Sunday, due to the high risk of avalanches.

Following the intense snowfall registered on Friday and Saturday, snow depths in the northern strip, particularly in the Vall d'Aran (Lleida), may exceed 50 centimeters. This situation has increased the risk of avalanches, even though the official danger level is set at 3 out of 5.

The danger of avalanches remains active, and slides may occur even though the official risk level is 3 out of 5.

Sergeant Eduard Sánchez, head of the Special Actions Group (GRAE), conveyed these warnings. Sánchez stressed the importance of preparation. If planning excursions, it is recommended to carry fully charged mobile phones, as well as food provisions, appropriate warm clothing, and carefully calculated routes.
