The measure, promoted by the Junts parliamentary group, primarily aims to ensure equal opportunities for young people in the Pyrenean regions and foster territorial cohesion. This initiative seeks to alleviate the lack of university offerings in the region, which often forces students to relocate and incur significant expenses.
“"Current mobility is a necessity imposed by the lack of university provision in Alt Pirineu and Aran, which has consequences for the future of young people due to increased family expenses, which are not solved by the scholarships offered, or the abandonment of university studies due to inability to meet these expenses."
Starting from the next academic year, direct bus services will connect the county capitals of Alt Pirineu and Aran with Tarragona, Girona (with a stop in Vic), and Barcelona (with a stop in Bellaterra) on Sunday evenings. Similarly, return routes to the Pyrenees will be established on Friday evenings.
The proposal also includes the creation of affordable fares for students, through specific season tickets or bonus systems. This policy is considered a national measure, aimed at combating depopulation, strengthening territorial cohesion, and promoting social justice.
