Data provided by the Conselh Generau d’Aran through Turisme Val d’Aran indicate an increase of 37,920 overnight stays compared to the same period in 2025. International tourism has grown significantly, rising from 156,230 overnight stays in 2025 to 183,360 in 2026. France remains the primary source market, with 122,271 overnight stays and a 28.92% increase.
Other international markets such as the Netherlands (with 50.30% growth) and Austria (73.90%) have also shown positive performance, while China has increased by 38.63%. Conversely, the United States experienced a moderate decrease of 6.18%, and markets like Romania, Israel, and Morocco show drops exceeding 40%.
This trend suggests greater internationalization and diversification of tourist demand in the Val d'Aran, opening new promotional opportunities. Regarding the domestic market, Barcelona continues to be the main origin (over 35% of the national total), despite a 6.4% decrease. Madrid also saw a 3.52% reduction in visitors, while Lleida, Valencia, Donostia, and Zaragoza remain stable.
July accounted for a significant portion of the increase, with 197,390 overnight stays (24,300 more than in 2025), a 14.04% growth representing approximately 64% of the season's total increase. This rise is part of the promotion and de-seasonalization strategy by the Conselh Generau d’Aran.
August remains the peak month for tourist influx with 284,170 overnight stays (+3.59% compared to 2025). The first thirteen days of September recorded 35,410 overnight stays (+6.43%), with a 25.89% increase in the international market.
Hotel occupancy improved from July onwards, rising from 49.86% in June to 63.80% in July (+6.58% year-on-year). August saw the highest occupancy at 78.23%. The first days of September registered 63.44% occupancy (+34.32% compared to 2025).
By areas, Mijaran grew by approximately 4%, Baish Aran by 10%, while Naut Aran decreased by around 11%, influenced by June's data.
Campsite occupancy also remained high: in August, bungalows reached 82.65% occupancy (+11% vs. 2025) and camping areas 73.58% (+10%). In July, bungalow occupancy was 63.90% (+21%).
The number of hikers increased to 379,300 people (244,810 in 2025), with growth concentrated in the international market (262,620 hikers, +20.01%), French hikers representing 83.26% of the total international hikers. The busiest day was August 18th with 6,668 people.
Technology is being used for natural space management through sensors monitoring the flow of people, vehicles, and bicycles. In Varradòs, vehicle registrations decreased by 47.91% (from 15,571 to 8,111) due to regulated motorized access. On the Transgarona route, sensors at Bèussa and Aubèrt recorded 5,555 bicycle entries and 40,603 pedestrians.
The Tourism Councillor, Josep Canut, highlighted the favorable evolution of tourism activity, the increase in overnight stays, and the presence of international visitors, as well as the positive trend in early September. He emphasized the importance of diversifying markets, fostering domestic tourism loyalty, and de-seasonalizing activity, while reinforcing sustainable management of natural spaces.
