In an opinion column published on December 14, 2025, Vidal expressed deep concern over the neglect of the landscape, biodiversity, and fire protection in the region. He emphasized that forest management is an obligation, not a luxury, and that the lack of selective thinning and forest densification multiply the impact of any fire.
“"One of the great mistakes is trying to manage from Barcelona what can only be understood by being on the ground day by day. Creating forest policies without considering the experience of the municipalities is a centralist error that we can no longer afford."
The deputy of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) pointed out that bureaucratic slowness, lack of permanent investment, and difficulty in applying forest management plans stifle the work of farmers, ranchers, forestry operations, and local technicians, who are the ones who truly keep the territory alive.
To reverse this situation, Vidal proposes streamlining procedures, facilitating sustainable management in protected areas (where much of the forest mass of the Alt Pirineu is concentrated), and adapting prices for high mountain work, acknowledging the higher costs due to orography and distance. He concluded that it is necessary to advocate for a forest policy that is "decentralized, transparent, and participatory."
