The Lleida Provincial Court sentenced a 42-year-old man to 18 years in prison this Wednesday for sexually abusing seven minors, including his daughters, in the Val d'Aran between 2011 and 2020.

The sentence, resulting from a plea bargain between the defense, the private prosecution, and the **Prosecutor's Office**, establishes 18 years of prison, 8 years of supervised release, and a 9,000 euro fine for the accused. Initially, the **Prosecutor's Office** sought a 38-year sentence. The defendant, identified as **José Andrés R.C.**, admitted the facts before the **Audiència de Lleida** this **Wednesday**.
The man took advantage of family events to commit the assaults on the seven victims, including his two daughters, their friends, and other relatives, over nearly a decade, from **2011** to **2020**. The ruling also mandates the payment of 43,000 euros in compensation to the victims.

"I conveyed to him that he had to accept it because he was facing many years in prison and the evidence was quite consolidated; there were many witnesses, medical reports, and, truly, everything was going against us."

Montse Cardet · defense lawyer
After the hearing, the **Mossos d'Esquadra** (Catalan Police) took the convicted man to the **Ponent** penitentiary center while awaiting resolution of the transfer request to **Quatre Camins** prison, as he resides in **Barcelona**. It should be noted that the **Audiència de Lleida** recently acquitted the man in another similar case of abuse against a minor in **Vielha** in **2019** due to lack of evidence.
