Unemployment rises slightly in Aran and Pyrenees despite job growth

The region closed February with 15,994 unemployed people while adding over 1,600 new social security affiliates.

The Ministry of Labour reported that unemployment in Aran, the Pyrenees, and Ponent rose by 0.82% this February, with 130 more people joining the search for work.

For the third consecutive month, jobless figures have increased in the region, bringing the total number of unemployed to 15,994. This rise was mainly driven by the services sector and individuals with no previous work experience.
Conversely, the labor market showed resilience with the creation of 1,647 new jobs during the month. Total social security affiliation has reached 211,848 people, marking a 2.37% increase compared to the same month last year.
The services sector remains the largest source of unemployment with 10,600 individuals, followed by industry and agriculture. Notably, women represent the majority of those seeking employment, accounting for 9,471 of the total registered cases.
