The Vielha e Mijaran City Council has initiated the drafting of various technical documents to improve forest fire prevention and protect inhabited areas.

The Vielha e Mijaran City Council and the Decentralized Municipal Entities (EMD) of the municipality have begun drafting several technical documents to strengthen forest fire prevention, improve forest and landscape management, and enhance the protection of inhabited areas and the natural environment. This initiative will provide an updated plan to guide future actions for clearing, conservation, and vegetation management in the interface zones between villages and forest areas.
In a high mountain municipality with a large area and numerous population centers, prevention is considered crucial for risk reduction. For the council, forest management, landscape conservation, and protection are fundamental actions to decrease the vulnerability of villages, safeguard homes and infrastructure, and facilitate the intervention of emergency teams in the event of a fire.
The City Council has commissioned the development of a 25-meter protection zone delimitation plan for the entire municipal area, costing €23,776. It will also draft its own Forest Fire Prevention plan, budgeted at €13,128.
In parallel, the seven EMDs of the municipality –Betren, Casau, Aubèrt i Betlan, Escunhau i Casarilh, Gausac, Vilac, and Arròs i Vila– will develop their own prevention plans tailored to their specific characteristics. These works amount to €77,137, of which the Generalitat will contribute €26,000. The remainder, over €51,000, will be fully financed by the City Council. In total, the intervention will mobilize €114,000.

"Prevention begins long before a fire can appear. Forest management and collaborative work with the EMDs are essential to guarantee residents' safety and preserve Vielha's landscape."
