The cold wave affecting Catalonia since the beginning of January 2026 resulted in extremely low temperatures early Wednesday morning, reaching -13.7 degrees at the Das airfield.

The temperature drop has been widespread, impacting both high mountain areas and coastal regions. The coldest spot recorded was the Das airfield, located in Cerdanya, which registered -13.7 degrees. Viella, in the Vall d'Aran, followed closely with -11.3ºC.
Other mountain towns accustomed to cold weather also experienced severe minimums, including El Pont de Suert (-11ºC), Puigcerdà (-10.6ºC), and Guixers-Valls (-10.1ºC). In central Catalonia, cities like Manresa dropped below -5ºC.
The frost even reached the metropolitan area. In Barcelona, the coldest point was the Fabra Observatory, recording -1.8ºC. Nearby towns such as Badalona (-0.9ºC) and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat also approached or fell below freezing.
In the Vallès region, minimums were significant: Vacarisses reached -2.6ºC, while Terrassa and Sabadell hovered around -1,5ºC. Conversely, the highest temperatures of the night were recorded on the southern coast, notably in Les Cases d'Alcanar (6.7 positive degrees).
