Residents of Sant Fruitós de Bages experienced delays of up to a month in mail delivery by Correos, due to staff shortages caused by the failure to cover three temporary sick leaves.

The situation worsened for a month in Sant Fruitós de Bages, where half of the Correos staff (three out of six workers) were on temporary sick leave. The company decided not to cover these absences, forcing residents, especially those in the outskirts like the La Rosaleda development, to travel to the office to collect their mail.

"Correos' policy is not to cover sick leaves, vacations, or any other absence. The remaining workers must take on the workload."

Luis Martínez · CGT Union Delegate
This staff shortage led to Christmas greetings arriving almost 20 days late. The CGT union delegate, Luis Martínez, confirmed that the workers on leave were precisely those responsible for motorcycle delivery in the peripheral areas, which were the most affected.
Although the staff has returned to 100% capacity in recent days, Martínez warns that this problem is common in the regions of Bages and Berguedà. The CGT demands better management and more personnel, suggesting “One delivery person per neighborhood or zone”.
