The water service in Callús now has the remote metering system, a technological solution implemented by the Callús City Council and Veolia, the service management company. This initiative promotes intelligent and sustainable water resource management through real-time consumption control.
937 domestic meters have been progressively renewed, 241 of them this year, reaching 97% coverage of the total 968 meters. The remaining 28 will be replaced next year. These actions were subsidized by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) with 31,600 euros and the Barcelona Provincial Council with 16,500 euros.
Remote metering allows for remote readings, improving water resource management efficiency, network planning, and reducing water losses through constant monitoring. Daily consumption readings are obtained, eliminating the need for site visits and approximate records, thus promoting responsible consumption and reducing CO₂ emissions.
The generated data optimizes service management and flow monitoring, facilitating agile leak detection and water consumption control. Residents can view their hourly consumption and receive personalized email notifications for exceeding set limits or detecting unusual usage, after registering on the Veolia website's Customer Area.
This digitalization reinforces the commitment of the Callús City Council and Veolia to innovation and transparency for a more informed and responsible citizenry.
