Non-attached councilor Jordi Soteras announced this Thursday in Santpedor that he will formally request the resignation of CUP representative Rubèn López following incidents during the February 10 plenary session.

During a press conference at the Parliament of Catalonia alongside Sílvia Orriols, Soteras confirmed he will present a motion to condemn violence and demand López's resignation. This follows a Local Police report against the CUP councilor for an alleged assault on an officer.

"We celebrate that the Santpedor Local Police have formally reported a CUP councilor for an assault on an officer."

The CUP maintains that the protests were a reaction to what they call an illegitimate appointment. Soteras took office representing Aliança Catalana despite having run on the Sumem x Santpedor-Junts list, leading to widespread criticism from other political groups in the municipality.
