This incorporation, which will become effective during the ordinary plenary session on the second Tuesday of February, means that Aliança Catalana will have its first organic representative in the Bages region. Soteras, who was number 9 on the Sumem x Santpedor list (linked to Junts) in the 2023 elections, will replace Jordi Rojas, who resigned a couple of months ago.
Soteras's entry occurs after the six members preceding him on the Sumem list declined to take the position due to “family, personal, or professional reasons.” The spokesperson for Sumem x Santpedor, Roser Llobera, offered a strictly local interpretation of the situation, accepting the legitimacy of the entry.
“"The important thing is to work for the town because here we practice local politics, and, whether we like it or not, [Soteras] is legitimized to take the seat, and we must accept it."
The mayor of Santpedor, the Republican Agustí Comas, has expressed reservations about the situation. Although he will not comment until the swearing-in, Comas disapproves of the council integrating an organic representative of an unvoted party, holding Junts responsible for not having prevented the chain of resignations.
This situation is reminiscent of a similar recent case in the Berga Town Council, where councilor Judit Vinyes (from the BeGi group) announced she would run for Aliança Catalana in future elections, causing the split of her group and her colleague, Lluís Minoves, becoming a non-attached councilor.
