The Manresa court has archived the case concerning the accident at the Cabanasses mine in Súria, where three geologists died in 2023, determining the rockfall was sudden and unpredictable.

The investigating judge concluded that there were no "rational indications of criminality" in the incident, which occurred approximately 900 meters underground. Three geologists, aged 28, 29, and 31, lost their lives when a rock weighing about two tons fell on them.
According to the ruling, the magistrate dismisses any "gross omission of safety measures" or "non-compliance with regulations" by the company Iberpotash, the operator of the Súria mine.
The case had been opened for a crime against workers' rights and three counts of negligent homicide. The judicial decision, first reported by the newspaper El País, absolves the company of all criminal liability.
