The Brown Bear Cross-Border Monitoring Group has reported a stable population of 54 bears in Catalonia for 2025, as part of a wider community of 108 individuals across the Pyrenees.

The latest data shows a significant decrease in reproduction, with only 3 cubs born in Catalonia this year compared to 12 in 2024. Despite this, the overall distribution area continues to expand, covering nearly 2,000 km² of Catalan territory. Authorities from France, Andorra, and Spain continue to collaborate on genetic tracking and habitat preservation.
To support local farmers, the Generalitat and the Conselh Generau d'Aran have implemented preventive measures for over 2,400 livestock units. Compensation payments totaling over 15,000 euros were issued in 2025 to cover damages to herds and beehives caused by bear activity.
