The Althaia Foundation and ICS Catalunya Central have expanded a prostate cancer screening pilot program to Cardona and Sallent following its initial phase in Manresa.

This initiative is part of the European PRAISE-U project, an international research effort aimed at establishing standardized screening protocols across the European Union. The goal is to reduce mortality rates while preventing overdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments for the most common cancer among men.
Men aged 50 to 69 in these areas will receive invitations for blood tests starting in late March. The tests will measure PSA levels at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Manresa. If irregular results are found, patients will undergo further evaluation, including ultrasounds or MRIs.
Althaia is the only Catalan institution involved in this study, which includes 25 organizations from 12 countries. Preliminary findings from the Manresa phase are set to be presented at the European Congress of Urology this month.
