Esquerra Republicana de Santpedor issued a statement demanding the resignation of Jordi Soteras, Vice President of Aliança Catalana in Bages, before he takes office as a non-attached councilor in the municipal plenary session.

The party, which governs in minority in the Santpedor Town Council, considers the entry of Soteras into the council “a very serious event,” as he represents a party the citizens did not vote for. Jordi Soteras, who was number 9 on the Sumem x Santpedor list in 2023, will replace Jordi Rojas, who resigned approximately three months ago.

"From Esquerra Republicana de Santpedor, we consider the entry of Jordi Soteras into the Town Council a very serious event, a councilor who represents initials that the citizens did not vote for."

ERC accuses Sumem x Santpedor of being “totally co-responsible” for this situation, as they did nothing to prevent one of their candidates from ending up “legitimizing a political project like Aliança Catalana in Santpedor.” According to the republicans, this chain of decisions is “irresponsible” and prioritizes party interests over democracy.
The statement, issued one day before the plenary session where Soteras will take office, insists that the situation “confirms the violation of democratic principles, institutional loyalty, and respect for popular will.” The party strongly criticized Aliança Catalana, stating they will not normalize “political projects that thrive on confrontation, exclusion, and hate.”

Not everything is acceptable for a seat.
