The actor from Castellbell i el Vilar, Jan Monter Palau, failed to win the Gaudí Award for Best Revelation Performance at the ceremony held last night at the Liceu de Barcelona, where Frontera and Sirât triumphed.

The performer from the Bages region was one of the candidates for his role in the film Estrany riu, but the award ultimately went to Llúcia Garcia for the film Romería. Despite the loss, his role as Dídac in the film directed by Jaume Claret Muxart has also been selected for the upcoming Goya Awards, which will be presented on February 28.
However, there was recognition for another talent from Manresa. The short film De sucre, by Clàudia Cedó, featuring actor Marc Buxaderas, was recognized with the Gaudí for Best Short Film. The 25-minute film addresses the desire for motherhood of a woman with functional diversity and had previously won at the Seminci de Valladolid.
The big winner of the night was Frontera, the historical thriller by Judith Colell about Jewish refugee smugglers in the Pyrenees, which took home the Best Film award and Best Supporting Actress for Bruna Cusí. Sirât, by Oliver Laxe, swept the technical categories with seven awards and won Best Film in a Non-Catalan Language.

"Frontera speaks of limits, but above all of people who are forced to leave home and seek refuge. In a moment like the present, acceptance and empathy are more necessary than ever. Hopefully, cinema will help us not to look away."

The debut film Sorda, by Eva Libertad, also stood out with three statuettes, including Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Álvaro Cervantes. Other awards went to La furia, which gave the Best New Director award to Gemma Blasco and Best Leading Actress to Ángela Cervantes, while Mario Casas won Best Leading Actor for Molt lluny.
