The Girona City Council must pay over €300,000 following 42 court rulings in favor of municipal employees who claimed compensation for unpaid overtime worked over a three-year period.

The legal conflict involves staff who worked longer hours than specified in their official job evaluations between May 2019 and December 2022. According to the CCOO union, the council's refusal to settle these claims internally forced workers to take legal action.
While the current administration has appealed thirty of these rulings to the TSJC (High Court of Justice of Catalonia), the union expects another 80 to 100 trials to take place soon. Total compensation costs for the city could eventually exceed one million euros.
Individual payouts range from €5,000 to €15,000. This dispute follows a separate agreement reached in June 2024 regarding wage inequalities among municipal staff, which also required significant retroactive payments.
