The head of the Central Emergency Region, Santi Lleonart, warns that the 4,808 services in 2025 maintain stability, but the severity of traffic accidents in Central Catalonia is increasing.

The operational data for the Bombers de la Generalitat during 2025 in the Central Emergency Region (covering eight counties such as Bages, Berguedà, and Anoia) shows a total of 4,808 services. Although the quantity of traffic accidents remains stable compared to 2024 (902 services versus 896), the head of the region, Santi Lleonart, born in Barcelona in 1973, has expressed concern about the increase in their severity.

"When there is a fire, we all know how to act, but in a circumstance like the major blackout, coordination with Civil Protection, Mossos d’Esquadra, and many other agencies is also necessary."

Lleonart, who has held the position for six years, assesses the region as "very stable," with data similar to 2023 and 2024. However, 2025 was marked by six episodes of water-related incidents, which involved a heavy workload due to their simultaneity. High figures were also recorded for fires, although without the severity of the blazes in Solsonès and Pont de Vilomara in 2022.
Regarding mountain rescues, with key areas like Montserrat, Pedraforca, or Cerdanya, the data remains stable (1,421 services in 2025). Lleonart attributes this stability to the "explosion of mountain users" accelerated by COVID. Looking ahead to 2026, the main challenge is improving coordination among emergency bodies, as highlighted during the widespread blackout on April 28.
