Montse Alcoba breaks Spanish powerlifting record in Madrid

The athlete from Castellbell i el Vilar lifted 116kg, setting her sights on the Los Angeles Paralympics.

The athlete Montse Alcoba, from Castellbell i el Vilar, has set a new Spanish record in powerlifting during the national championships held at the Club Siderópolis facilities in Madrid.

Competing in the under-86kg category, Alcoba successfully lifted 116 kilograms, surpassing her previous personal best of 115 kilograms. This achievement marks a successful return to top-level competition for the Club de Pesas Terrassa member.

"I am extremely happy with the record. The previous one was 115 kilos, but back then I trained five days a week and did double sessions. Now, my reality is different."

At 44 years old, Alcoba balances her sporting career with her role as a special education teacher and motherhood. Having lost her left leg in a motorcycle accident, she previously earned an Olympic diploma at Tokyo 2021 and silver medals at European championships in France and Georgia.
Her long-term goal is the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. After proving her strength in Madrid, she continues her preparation with a focus on personal fulfillment and maintaining her competitive edge in adapted weightlifting.
