The Sant Fruitós de Bages City Council has offered land in an industrial estate to the Barcelona Driving Schools Federation to establish a new track area for driving tests and practices, affecting schools currently operating in Manresa. The federation's president, Teresa Coll, informed attendees at a meeting held on Friday at the Àgora hall in the FUB2 building.
“"It was voted, minutes were taken, and in this vote, the majority of driving schools in Bages requested that [the federation] prepare the file and present it to the DGT with the change of space for exams and practices."
The land concession in Sant Fruitós would be free of charge for a period of 99 years. The federation will assume the costs of construction and organization of the area. Coll stated that they would propose a fee to the affiliated driving schools that would be "much lower" than what they currently pay.
This decision follows the failure to secure an alternative space in Manresa, a search that began in 2022. The Manresa City Council reportedly told them they had no place to relocate them. Furthermore, the current track area, located on the Tovots road, is leased to a private company, a situation Coll points out is unique in the country.
