The Sant Fruitós de Bages City Council has successfully turned a former health hazard into a new private housing development after years of urban paralysis following the real estate crisis.

The building, located between Lluís Castells and Caça streets, was owned by SAREB (the 'bad bank'). For years, the unfinished structure served as a massive pigeon shelter, causing sanitary issues in the town center.
In the summer of 2024, the local government had to intervene. Due to the owner's inaction, the council spent approximately 13,000 euros to seal the facade openings and clean up accumulated waste.
Now, a private developer has purchased the property and is completing the construction. Municipal sources expect the new apartments to be ready for residents by the summer of 2026.
