The Rodalies de Catalunya commuter rail network is facing a reliability crisis with 209 active speed restrictions this week, a figure that has tripled since 2017.

Infrastructure conditions have deteriorated significantly over the last nine years. Data from Adif shows a jump from 75 restrictions in 2017 to over two hundred today. This surge is partly linked to emergency works initiated after the Gelida accident on January 20th, which led to technical audits across 700 locations.

"This investment proves that the previous maintenance of the Rodalies network was not adequate."

Critical points include the Lleida-Manresa line and the Rubí tunnel, which will close for seven weeks for urgent repairs. Commuter advocacy groups like PTP have criticized Adif for its lack of transparency after the agency blocked a public website tracking these delays.
