The Santpedor Town Council experienced a heated plenary session this Tuesday, March 10, characterized by political friction and significant public protests against hate speech in the municipality.

The meeting room reached full capacity, leading Local Police to restrict access to several people. Inside, many attendees held signs demanding the resignation of Jordi Soteras, an independent councillor and vice-president of the Aliança party in Bages.
A motion for equal treatment and non-discrimination, backed by ERC and CUP, was passed with 8 votes in favor. The initiative follows a controversial session in February that resulted in police charges and the arrest of former councillor Aniol Vila.

"This motion is a democratic tool and makes it clear that in Santpedor there is no room to whitewash the far-right."

Mayor Agustí Comas supported the equality measures, emphasizing a community model based on dignity. Meanwhile, a counter-motion by Soteras in support of the police was overwhelmingly rejected by the council.
