The agricultural union Unió de Pagesos inaugurated an exhibition on Tuesday at the Espai Plana de l’Om in Manresa to celebrate 50 years of history and struggle in the Bages region.

The exhibition, which can be visited until January 25, includes sixty photographs illustrating the evolution and advocacy work of the entity since its origins during the final years of the Franco dictatorship. The inauguration ceremony served to recall the key role of the peasantry in achieving democratic freedoms in the country.

"You have persisted for fifty years against threats, but it is still necessary to defend rights."

Eloi Hernández · President of the Bages County Council
The event featured historical voices such as Joan Tatjé and Joan Casajoana, who recalled the hostile beginnings of the union. Josep Guitart, regional coordinator of Unió de Pagesos, led the event, which also included political speeches by Anjo Valentí, Deputy Mayor of Manresa, and Eloi Hernández, President of the Bages County Council.

"Unió de Pagesos has been a school of life and democracy."

The national coordinator, Raquel Serrat, emphasized UP's founding principles as a unitary, independent, and democratic entity, defending small and medium-sized farmers. She took the opportunity to invite the sector to participate in the upcoming agrarian elections, scheduled for February, a hard-won right.
