The The Atlantida Picture Show series screens the great science fiction epic Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, this Thursday, January 8, at the Bages Centre in Manresa.

The film Interstellar (2014) stands as one of the most ambitious works by Christopher Nolan, one of the most influential filmmakers of the last few decades. The English director undertook this production following successes such as Memento (2000), The Dark Knight (2008), and Inception (2010).
The 169-minute film depicts an Earth threatened by severe environmental problems, forcing NASA to plan a mission to search for a new habitable planet. Astronaut Cooper, played by Matthew McConaughey, must leave his children behind to embark on this space adventure. The cast also includes Anne Hathaway, David Gyasi, Jessica Chastain, and MacKenzie Foy.
The screenplay, written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, with music by Hans Zimmer, shows a clear influence from Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Nolan skillfully merges cosmic metaphysics with the sentimental spirit of Steven Spielberg, one of his declared references.
Although critics do not consider it Nolan's best work, the film still reveals the powerful drive of a great filmmaker who fearlessly takes on the riskiest and most significant challenges. The screening will take place today, Thursday, January 8, at 9 PM, at the Bages Centre in Manresa.
