The Manresa City Council has launched a new phase of the program to promote the use of Catalan, focusing on recruiting volunteers for the 'Volunteering for Language' initiative.

The initiative aims to connect volunteer speakers willing to converse with users who wish to practice Catalan. This proposal was detailed at the latest session of the Table for the Promotion of Social Catalan Use in Manresa, attended by the counselor of the Department of Linguistic Policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Francesc Xavier Vila, who closed the event.
The Montserrat Linguistic Normalization Center explained the technical functioning of the volunteering program and the different participation modalities. The importance of the linguistic referent figure as support within associations was highlighted. Local entities have informational material to disseminate the initiative.
This action follows up on the results of the Catalan Language Use Survey in Manresa. The study indicates that approximately 98% of the population understands Catalan and it is the initial language in two out of every three conversations, although in 54% of cases, the language changes when two speakers interact.
To address this reality, the campaign «Never Change» encourages maintaining Catalan in daily interactions. The program includes audiovisual materials depicting everyday situations in areas such as commerce, sports, and culture.
