The restoration of the Sant Esteve de Marganell church, completed last May, has been selected as a finalist in the international Archello Awards 2025 in the religious buildings category.

The restoration of the Sant Esteve de Marganell church will compete for the prestigious global Archello Awards 2025, granted annually by this international online architecture platform. The project, which dates back to the 12th century, is a finalist in the religious buildings category, with voting open until December 1.
The renovation, unveiled last May, was carried out by Santamaria Arquitectes from Manresa. The goal was to adapt the temple, located 1.5 km from the town center near Montserrat, as a suitable space for covered cultural and religious events.
The most notable feature of this rehabilitation is the installation of a transparent glass roof over the central nave, ensuring natural light, along with the restoration of access to the bell tower.
Other finalists in the same category include the Santa Ona Chapel in Koshigaya (Japan), the Saedalen church in Bergen (Norway), the extension of the Market Square Church in Hoofdorp (Netherlands), and the first new church built in Skanderborg (Denmark) in over five centuries.
