A new performance space in Sallent's Plaça 19 d’Abril opened its doors this month of October. The project has transformed a plot between the river and the historic center into a tiered seating area and a stage designed for cultural and leisure activities, as well as a resting place for residents.
Designed by architects Clara Casas and Joana Solsona of Muntant Arquitectura Cooperativa, the project utilizes the natural slope of the terrain. It is organized into four connected platforms, employing terraces and dry stone walls, a traditional construction technique linked to the local landscape.
The lower platform houses the main stage, which will be the hub for events such as concerts, recitals, and live performances. The intermediate areas provide spaces for rest and relaxation surrounded by vegetation, aiming to naturalize the environment.
Various shrub species and trees have been incorporated to create shaded areas and help regulate temperature. A canopy covers the seating area to enhance comfort.
Its location in the historic center, next to the Music School (Escola de Música), aims to connect the new space with the municipality's cultural activities. The sidewalk on Carrer del Molí has also been widened to improve pedestrian mobility and flow.
The adjacent building's party wall has been enhanced with lime mortar plaster and climbing vegetation, integrating the ensemble into the landscape. This intervention reclaims a plot, turning it into a public space that celebrates the site's identity.
