Víctor Manuel's new work, titled Solo a solas conmigo, is an album with a strong introspective focus, addressing both sentimental memory and his reflections on current politics. The Asturian artist will present it live on June 16 at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, as part of the Suite Festival.
“"It worries me a lot that everyone likes her, that she is liked simultaneously by Sánchez, Feijóo, and the Episcopal Conference."
The album features notable collaborations with artists such as Rozalén, Mikel Izal, and his son, David San José, who has been his main production partner since 2003. Víctor Manuel expressed a certain "tiredness of the political game," characterized by insults and the "you too" rhetoric, although he defended the work of thousands of unpaid local councilors.
In the interview, the singer-songwriter shared his critical view of current music. While he listens to artists like Bad Bunny and Guitarricadelafuente, he was skeptical of the rise of mysticism in some productions, including the film Los domingos and parts of Rosalía's work, specifically the album Motomami, which he dismissed.
“"Art is not neutral; it distills ideology. Jorge Ilegal used to say that if you are honest, you have to be fighting with someone."
He also lamented the devaluation of copyright in the streaming era, where revenue has largely remained in the hands of record companies. Regarding the future, Víctor Manuel does not rule out a new collaboration or tour with Ana Belén, with whom he last worked in 2014 on Canciones regaladas.
