The Santa Tecla festivities in Tarragona have now confirmed who will carry the iconic Moorish Giants and the Negritos. The Tarragona council has announced that the chosen group for this role this year is the Perpetuators of Santa Tecla, an honor that recognizes both past and present bearers.
This collective, well-known and cherished by festival enthusiasts in the city, includes historical figures such as Mangarro, Faba, and Toreo, as well as more recent ones like Gordete, Carnicers, and Paio Xavi. The official proclamation of the Perpetuators will take place during the traditional La Crida event, scheduled for September 15.
The Councilor for Culture and Festivals, Sandra Ramos, emphasized the significance of this award, highlighting the passion and unwavering perseverance of generations of Tarragona's Romani families who have carried these representative figures of the Popular Procession. "They are giant-bearers, but also perpetuators of a great festival," stated Ramos, underscoring the care and affection passed down through the years.
This year's Santa Tecla poster, commemorating the 175th anniversary of the Moorish Giants, aims to highlight the commitment of these individuals to the festival, recognizing their gift for making the giants and small giants dance with unique dedication.
